Tank sizes (Above Ground)
Above ground tanks come in a range of sizes (see right). The appropriate size of tank will depend on the following factors:
-
total estimated gas consumption of all the appliances on the system at peak demand
-
physical constraints imposed by the site
-
access for installation of the LPG bulk tank
-
access for deliveries
-
required frequency of delivery

LPG Bulk Tank Storage Capacity
LPG bulk tanks are normally filled to 87% of their capacity to allow sufficient vapour space above the liquid level for the propane to expand and contract with changes in temperature.
Calor's aim is to provide at least 6 weeks gas storage at maximum gas consumption rate to ensure
security and continuity of supply. This may be increased where access may be difficult during the
winter months.
Full central heating and hot water for an average property represents an annual gas consumption of
3000 to 5000 litres per year.
It should be noted that LPG bulk tanks can be grouped to provide the required storage capacity and off-take rate.
