Traditionally, horticulturists have used oil heating in off-mains gas areas. At the Four Oaks show in September, Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG, will be demonstrating how it can offer businesses in the horticulture industry an alternative cleaner, greener, more economical fuel and a solution to the looming energy crisis.
Primarily designed for frost protection and to maintain consistent temperatures, Calor LPG powered heating equipment can be used to help horticultural businesses meet the increased demand for all-year round availability of crops and produce. LPG also optimises CO2 levels helping maximise flower growth and increase crop yields.
Cleaner and Greener with Calor
Recent gas price hikes are a real and current danger to horticulturists and some could find energy costs crippling to their business. Rising costs are broadly attributed to supply and demand issues. Growth in demand in Asia and China of more than ten per cent per annum and continued demand for oil related products in the USA has recently been combined with supply disruptions due to unrest in Iraq and Nigeria and hurricanes in the Gulf causing damage to natural gas systems and onshore processing facilities.
In the long term, prices are expected to stabilise through investment in additional supplies of oil and gas but there is little indication that the volatility in oil and gas prices will be any less severe this year than last year.
But fuel costs are not the only concern. Sabrina Jackson, Calor commercial market manger explains: “In addition to the rising price of gas, oil can also be an expensive option, not only in terms of the cost of the fuel but horticulturists must also face clean up costs should leaks happen.“
Many horticulture companies have found Calor LPG to be a viable and cost-effective alternative fuel. Calor takes complete responsibility for the installation, maintenance and safety of its bulk tanks so there should be no worries about leaks or spills and customers also save the cost and hassle of purchasing their own storage plus any future vessel replacement.
Calor has over 70 years experience providing LPG and has an acknowledged presence in the British countryside. The company has built strong relationships with rural communities supplying fuel for their agricultural, catering heating and water heating applications. Calor understands the needs of each of these industries supporting them through its unrivalled technical experience, large distribution network and its well-established Calor Village of the Year competition.
Calor is working with market leading heating equipment suppliers such as Maywick to provide a complete heating solution for commercial growers. Visitors to the show should visit stand E11 to find out more about how Calor LPG powered heating equipment can help commercial growers of salad crops, bedding plants and flowers increase yields, reduce all round energy costs and prepare them for the expected energy crisis.
